The wildlife highlight this year was definitely the time we spent in Namibia, especially in spots like Etosha National Park and Walvis Bay. However, we also got a few shots closer to home and even a few literally in our own backyard. Here is a sample of a few of our favourites that we took in 2018.
Greater Flamingos, the largest flamingo species in the world, in the Walvis Bay Lagoon, Namibia. Sandwiched between sand dunes and the sea, the shallow lagoon is home to one of the larger concentrations of these great pink birds.

Black Rhino, Etosha National Park, Namibia. This huge beast looked especially formidable walking directly towards us.
Lioness, Etosha National Park, Namibia
Northern black korhan, Etosha National Park, Namibia. We often hear these very vocal birds before we see them.

Spider monkey, Sumidero Canyon, Chiapas, Mexico
Black fox, Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan.
Bald eagle, Alberta Birds of Prey Centre, Coaldale, Alberta.
Egyptian goose, Etosha National Park, Namibia. This goose seemed to consider itself the guardian of the waterhole. Whenever any other wildlife came to drink, it would run around and make a big fuss.
Steenbok, Etosha National Park, Namibia. These tiny antelope, standing little more than two feet tall, sport very impressive ears.
Male House Finch in our backyard in Saskatoon.
Bohemian waxwing in our backyard in Saskatoon.
Pronghorn, Great Sand Hills, Saskatchewan.
